'OnLive', The Destroyer of Lame.

Today my video game playing mind was blown.
I just got done watching the live press conference for a ground breaking new video game service (virtually console) called 'OnLive'.
Picture yourself playing the most up to date PC game, super smooth on a simple entry level computer. Now picture playing this game on an entry level Mac...now picture playing on a PC vs. someone on a Mac.....and also on a TV......
........yeah.
This new service takes up only 1mb of your hd space...
The only thing required is a highspeed internet connection. Everything else is done seamlessly online.
And there is so much more with endless possibilities...
Below is the link to the press conference and the official site.

There's a lot of glaring issues with this service.

First off, for this to even operate functionally at all, they're going to need A LOT of bandwidth. We're talking the bandwidth of Google, YouTube, MegaUpload and RapidShare combined.

Second, and I know this is one they've addressed, is lag. Since your input has to get to the server, then back to you in the form of video, unlike current games that just work one way, you'd actually be getting double the lag.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic or hate it or anything. It really is a GREAT idea and I hope they can pull it off. I just see some big technical roadblocks standing in their way.

Well, though I can't fully recall everything said, the press conference had a nice q&a that covered these issues and from what I remember they're responses were pretty darn promising. This is a kind of thing that will be transforming internet a bit, let alone gaming as a whole. Though at this point it is a bit hard to believe, what really gets me excited is that someday (maybe not this year) all of this will totally be possible. I think i'll add the conference video onto my post too.

I think this comic:

And the accompanying news post:

Pretty much nail exactly my feelings of anticipation and my hesitancy.
